We know how this looks. A website asking for your WiFi password sounds like exactly the thing you've been told never to do. So let us explain what actually happens, because it's different from what you might expect.
Your password never leaves your computer or phone. This page works like a calculator, not like a website form. When you type your WiFi name and password, nothing is sent anywhere. There's no "submit" moment where your information travels to us or anyone else. The QR code is drawn right there on your own screen, by your own device. We never see it. We couldn't see it if we wanted to, because there's nothing on this page that sends anything out.
Don't take our word for it. Test it yourself:
- Open this page and wait for it to load.
- Turn on airplane mode, or unplug your internet.
- Type your WiFi name and password and make the QR code.
It still works, with no internet at all. That's the proof. A page that sends your password somewhere can't function with the internet off. This one can, because your information never goes anywhere in the first place.
We also have no way to store it. This site has no user accounts, no tracking, and no analytics scripts watching what you type. That's not a special setting we turned on for this page. It's how the whole site is built, and you can read our privacy policy or even inspect our source code if you're curious.
The one thing to actually be careful about: the QR code itself. Anyone who scans it can join your network, because the code contains your password. That's the whole point, and it's why we suggest printing it for people you'd happily hand the password to anyway: guests, customers, family. If you run a business, put customers on a separate guest network so the code on the tables never touches the WiFi your office computers use.

Keep guests off your main network
A QR code makes joining easy. Pair it with a separate guest SSID so customers never land on the same network as your POS, office laptops, or cameras. Most routers expose a Guest Network toggle; turn it on, give it its own password, and put only that password in the QR.

Does this work with WPA3?
Yes. The WiFi QR standard encodes WPA3 networks as T:WPA — the same type used for WPA/WPA2. That is the compatible encoding phones expect.
Can I encode a hidden network?

Do guests see the password?
Yes — a WiFi QR encodes the password so the phone can authenticate. Treat the printed card like a password on paper, and put customers on a guest SSID, not your main network.
